There’s plenty going on to keep you amused. The weather may have turned cold but you can still “sizzle” at Bondi, help a great cause, get your fashion fix, go on safari, stick your finger in a few pies, become a reality TV star…and if it all gets too much, make yourself a martini.
Bondi Sizzle: By now you’ve probably heard about “Sizzle”, the new Bondi Beach Community Festival celebrating Bondi’s unique culture and creativity, which kicks off today. There’s several cool events including the Garage Art Exhibition being held upstairs at the Beach Road Hotel tomorrow (opens 6:30pm) – it’s Bondi’s biggest ever exhibition of new and emerging local artists with 100% of all sales proceeds to go to the artists. On Sunday, be part of a great Aussie tradition and follow the Garage Sale Trail. It’s all about treasuring other people’s trash. 6-9 May, 2010. For more info visit www.sizzlefestival.com.au
Fashion Fix: Haven’t had your fix of all things Fashion Week yet? Head to the Fashion Forward Festival this weekend and support independent and emerging Australian designers by, well, shopping! 7-9 May, 2010, Paddington Town Hall. www.fashionforwardfestival.com.au
Tour de Cure: The Tour de Cure takes off tomorrow taking 75 riders and 20 support crew from Sydney to Noosa via Tamworth. They are aiming to be the first tour foundation to raise over $1million for cancer research support and prevention on a single ride. Get behind them by following the tour live online, watching them on CH7 Sunrise tomorrow or donating a few dollars. www.tourdecure.com.au
On safARI: The unofficial fringe side event to the Sydney Biennale has its opening night is this Friday, 7 May, 2010 from 6-8pm at MOP Projects (2/39 Abercrombie St, Chippendale). safARI is a showcase of unrepresented experimental work from 11 emerging Aussie artists, which officially opens on Friday 13 June, 2010. World Cocktail Week: Who knew there was a “World Cocktail Week” commemorating the first definition of the term “Cocktail” in print in 1806. Celebrate at one of Eau-de-Vie’s boozy “how to” classes such as the “Martini Masterclass” or “Five Cocktails Every Gentleman Should Know”. 10-13 May, 2010. Classes start at $75.
