Festival of Dangerous Ideas

Festival of Dangerous IdeasWatching Jules and Tony go head to head on election issues like the economy and jobs is hardly riveting stuff. In their one and only debate, no one threw any punches and no one cried (except those of us at home listening to them).

If you’re after some real debate with a good dose of controversy the Festival of Dangerous Ideas is for you.

Set to take place at the Opera House over the long weekend (2-3 October) the festival is about stimulating conversation, enraging audiences and covering some of society’s taboo topics.

See Geoffrey Robertson and Alan Dershowitz face off on the scandal of sexual abuse in the Catholic Church.  Hear thought-leaders and stirrers, academics and bloggers address topics like: “Why the Religious Will Inherit the Earth, What We Can Learn from Terrorists” and “The Pursuit of Happiness is Making Us Miserable”.

Our favourite? That “Australian Husbands are the Worst in the World and Why it is Women’s Fault”. (Perhaps avoid this one if you’re on a first date).

And if all this talk makes your blood boil, you can sign up for Soapbox and have your chance to stand up in public and rant for 2 minutes about what matters to you.

Talk isn’t cheap.
