Asahi Silver + Black: international artist showcase
“I’m turning Japanese, I think I’m turning Japanese, I really think so….”
When you think of beer you probably don’t associate it with art… but the Japanese always like to do things differently. Welcome to Asahi Silver + Black, an exhibition and retail concept of a different kind. From this Thursday Asahi Super Dry beer will stage a unique combination of art, photography, fashion and design culture at the aMBUSH Gallery in Waterloo.
Asahi will exhibit a variety of obscure vintage Asahi objects and artefacts (we’re guessing these won’t be limited to old beer bottles?), alongside a range of prints, sketches, installations, photography, fashion and live creative events.
You’ll see a curated selection of works that acknowledge the Japanese ‘wabi-sabi’ spirit of finding beauty in imperfect things and the Karakuchi Project, where artists will create their own interpretation of the Japanese characters featured on the Asahi Super Dry Label.
One of the biggest crowd pleasers at the recent Melbourne exhibition was Hit + Run, direct from LA, who will appear for one night only this Thursday, 29 April 2010 from 6:30pm – 9pm. Hit+Run’s specialty is creating the coolest and most unique t-shirts, and their live silk screening parties have enjoyed huge success around the world at festivals, premieres and clubs. Be one of 300 people to receive a seriously limited edition t-shirt featuring designs by artists such as She One, Kofie, Ryo Ono and Cryptik that will only be available on the night. You’re guaranteed that you’ll never see your masterpiece anywhere else.
