Winter Nights: Hot Cocktails in a Cool Bar

Zeta Bar’s Covent Garden

Covent Garden at Zeta BarAh, winter! The season of frost-bitten mornings, leafless trees and elongated evenings… Evenings spent at home in front of the heater, because rugging up to go out is too much effort. Well, Zeta Bar provides an incentive to lure you out on a Friday.

This winter Zeta embraces the cold by channeling Covent Garden, the famed London market district. Here buskers will serenade you under the open skies, while street performers and shoe-shiners weave through the crowds. It’s enough to make you want to pull on a newsboy cap and put on a Cockney accent. Awright Gov’ner?

The cocktail list makes inventive and inviting changes to classic concoctions, all designed to add extra spice, smoke and heat. Youll love the Hot Toddy served in teacups or screw-top jars; its warm whiskey and cinnamon scent sure to dissolve your winter blues. Or how does a Maple and Smoked Black Pepper Manhattan sound?

If you try only one thing here (and you’d be a fool to limit yourself) it’s the Nitro Eggnog. The dashing bartenders will plunge your eggnog into a bowl of liquid nitrogen, quickly lift it out of the smoke and deliver it with instructions to, “Eat it, now! Quickly!” The result is a kind of cold meringue explosion, blanketing your mouth with a prickly sweet coolness.

Between the majestic views of the QVB rooftop, the roast chestnuts and the chargrilled marshmallows, your evening will take on the atmosphere of an open-air winter festival.

And just like little Oliver Twist, you too will be asking “Please sir, I want some MORE!”
