Remy & Lee’s

Ever feel like an intruder at Surry Hills haunts brimming with lingering locals?
At Remy & Lee’s, no worries if you’re not a Hills resident. At this recently-opened café, you’ll feel right at home.
Upon entering, it feels like you’ve been invited into owners and partners, Jeremy (Remy) and Lee’s living room. Similar to other inner-city spots, the space has been eclectically arranged with quirky objects including fish tanks, bicycles and glass cabinets. But what sets this place apart is its personal touches, enhancing the café’s homeliness, such as snapshots of Remy and Lee. Plus, settled into one of the rocking chairs beside a magazine rack (well, string in this case) full of glossies, your morning is sorted.
The menu here is no-fuss, the focus being on good quality ingredients and products. Proof is in the pies, tarts and sausage rolls from Newtown’s Black Star Pastry, beautiful jams like butterscotch and plum, and homemade choccie sauce for the hot chocolates. Drop in for light breakfast and lunch options, including Bircher muesli, toast and quiches. Besides, since it feels like popping over to a friend’s place, things should stay simple. It’s the company that counts the most (and good coffee of course!). The Little Marionette blend they use certainly pulls the right strings.
Seated at the communal tables, you’ll surely get chatting to someone- from mums and bubs to young cool cats. Who knows, Remy and Lee may not be the only friends you make here. A promotion to be part of the Hills posse could be on the cards.
