The Eathouse Diner
The Eathouse Diner is the latest on foodies’ “must do” list. Set to change the face of Redfern, it’s just what the doctor ordered.
Open for just over a week, people have been pushing down the doors to get in here. And boy, is it a charmer! Full of personality, this place is a true little love child. A wish come true for three old friends, it oozes the love and labour poured into it.
There’s something special about the Eathouse Diner with its nostalgic ambiance. It feels as though you’ve stepped back in time somewhere between the 1950’s and 1970’s. In true diner style it’s decked out with a counter and rotating stools (minus the black filtered coffee).
The walls are decorated in an eclectic mix of art and vintage items from the 1950’s. It’s a collector’s paradise, exploding with toys and trinkets, all part of the décor.
The casual, welcoming and down-to-earth vibe is all part of the Eathouse charm. A cheeky outdoor sign simply reads “Eat Here”. It’s the hang-out of nonchalant arty and fashionable locals with an air of “cool” and a flair for all things vintage and shabby chic.
The food is modern Australian, inspired by Spanish and Central American cuisine. About quality not quantity, the menu changes regularly, with intriguing combinations to tantalise your taste buds. Try the beef cheeks with rainbow chard and cauli puree, the whole pan-fried snapper with smashed potato and tartare or the Lamb shanks, caper mint and mushy peas. If you’re feeling game there always the oyster shot with chilli salsa and tequila! For the great wine list, with a mix of the classic and unique… “speak to your sexy bartender”.
The Eathouse diner is located on Chalmers St, not that you’d miss it with it’s pastel green and red painted exterior – it feels like Christmas all year round!
