La Banette Opens in Glebe
La Banette, the French patisserie with a cult following, opened its doors on Glebe Point Road last week and there’s only one word to describe it “Délicieuse!”
Stepping inside the store is like stepping into a gorgeous provincial-style farmhouse. Think wooden doors, stone washed walls and more opera cakes, éclairs and custard tarts than you can say ooh la la at.
Fans of this prized patisserie have been begging the owners to venture from Avalon to the big smoke for the past twelve years and are rejoicing at their good fortune.
Grab a box of pastries or a box of petit fours and chocolate-dipped strawberries, which look so perfectly pretty you may find yourself reluctant to bite into them. Don’t deny yourself though, because they taste every bit as incredible as they look.
Or if you’re in the mood for something more savoury; quiches, pies and sausage rolls are on offer, with buttery-brown pastry just barely keeping their fillings from bursting forth. The ratatouille quiches reach formidably large sizes so are perfect for a picnic or a small dinner party with minimal effort.
And then there’s the bread…batard loaves, yeast-free sourdoughs and seed-studded rye.
Mon dieu! Give us this day, our daily bread (and pastry).
