Rosso Sans Merrick

Tired of hollering against ear-splitting music or listening to the monodic sounds of the pokies and sports screens? Whatever happened to catching up with a mate over a few vinos in a laid back bar?
Luckily for those willing to travel over the Harbour Bridge, funny man Tim Ross (of former “Merrick & Rosso” fame) has opened a little ray of small-bar sunshine on the Northern Beaches. It’s not exactly new, but worth checking out, if you haven’t already.
Rosso has set up his trendy Park Street Social Club (Park St SC) in Mona Vale. Industrially chic melded with a casual beaches vibe, this place is a discretely set drinking hole – a great before or after dinner venue.
It’s simple, understated and relaxed…Coopers Pale Ale served in longnecks only, with two glasses to share. A bottle of boutique wine, presented in a stylish carafe. Three fantastic cocktail martinis – straight-up, lychee or espresso. And all-time classic cheese Twisties oh so sophisticatedly served up in a bowl.
Still hungry? Choose from prosciutto, marinated olives, cheese and crackers or thick, focaccia-like pizzas. And for locals, try cheap Wednesdays: pizzas and a glass of wine (only $10) plus music director, Rosso himself, spinning tunes. There’s always something going on here; be it comedian Peter Helliar, Friday night DJs or jazz numbers on a Sunday arvo.
Park yourself with a few friends at the Park Street SC. If you’re not a local and planning on a day of Northern Beaches sun and sand, this is absolutely the bar for a post-beach bevvy (just remember to bring that friend who conveniently doesn’t drink!).
