Got The Lot

Lot 40
When it comes to going out in Sydney, seclusion is golden. In a city where popular nightspots are often brimming over, there’s something rewarding about saying “I found this great bar, but it’s kind of hard to explain where it is…” Welcome to Lot Forty, your new laneway local.
For the geographically challenged, it might take a couple of tries to find, but don’t be disheartened. This little gem of a tapas bar is well worth the lost look on your face as you go hunting.
Tucked away at 40 (what else?) Kings Lane near the Republic 2 building, Lot Forty looks like an unassuming hole-in-the-wall with only a few scattered tables in a small outdoor courtyard. But once inside, you’ll be greeted by warm and attentive wait staff and tantalizing smells wafting from the open kitchen.
The tapas style dishes are designed to share, although they are so tasty that you might forget your manners. Each dish is unique, such as the oven baked duck crepe with plum sauce, crispy eschalots & brocolini, the BBQ baby bocconcini wrapped in pancetta and basil and the paper thin carpaccio, which changes daily.
For the ultimate carb indulgence, you can’t go past the crab and prawn gnocchi. Hint: order extra bread. You’ll forget all self-consciousness as you mop up any leftover sauce. Since the prices are so reasonable, you could always just order another, but it’s heartbreaking to let something that good go to waste.
For those on a liquid diet, the drinks selection ranges from sweet and indulgent cocktails like the Chambord Margherita, to a small selection of wines including a five dollar wine special of the week. (No, that’s not a typo). On Sundays, the specials include ten dollar jugs of Pimms and Sangria meaning it’s the perfect spot to grab an early dinner and settle in with friends.
Lot 40 has the lot: great food, great drinks, great prices – and a great location when you finally find it. We’d love to keep this place a secret…but it would be a crime not to share.
