Long Story Short

The Shortlist
They say too much choice is a good thing, but when you’re sitting in some groovy cafe staring at a menu that’s more like literary classic “War and Peace”, it can be plain overwhelming.
Options are overrated.
Let go of your decision-riddled anguish, because The Shortlist has added itself to the Abercrombie Street repertoire of little cafes, while promising to take it easy on your indecisiveness.
With a list of under a dozen items scrawled across the chalkboard wall there’s an emphasis on brunch-type offerings to appease your appetite, no matter what time of the day, and all for ten dollars or less. Choose from the simple but perfectly crafted toast with avocado and lemon oil, the unfussy ever-changing sandwiches, or the very moreish baked beans with bocconcini and chorizo.
The Shortlist has a cosy interior that’s always buzzing. The courtyard is stuffed with students and odd bits of furniture, while wooden stools sprawl out onto the street where the sun floods the front in the afternoons.
The coffee comes courtesy of Little Marionette; with alternative blends on rotation should you want to stray. If you’re after something sweet the pastries are outsourced from Black Star Pastry, the bakery which has earned itself a cultish following for their “Ginger Ninjas” – but the Persian fig cake on offer is a piece of art both in look and taste.
In short, this place sets the perfect limits. But you’ll still want to try everything on offer.
