Le Pain Quotidien
Sharing your organic ‘daily bread’ at a communal table isn’t exactly world changing…Bills has been doing it for years after all. But international organic bakery franchise Le Pain Quotidien has attracted a devoted following – so what’s the story?
Conceived in Belgium, Le Pain Quotidien arose out of chef Alain Coumont’s difficulty in finding good quality bread to use in his restaurant. He started baking his own simple sourdoughs, and from that miraculously arose a super trendy franchise operating out of NewYork, with over 100 stores across the world.
Le Pain in Leichhardt is the original Sydney franchise, and it follows that it’s also the most established – with regulars flitting in and out off Norton Street to buy their bread with special deals available for Leichhardt locals. Beyond bread, there are plenty of treats in store to be had. Full breakfasts are available as well as cakes and treats, sumptuous lunches and coffees, and shelved in the centre of the store is a huge array of preserves, coffees, spreads, jams and oils – and they’re all organic!
The empire is growing steadily with cafes now operating in Bondi Junction and Surry Hills, but the guys at Le Pain Quotidien, Leichhardt are offering one free coffee with any dine-in purchase when you mention Cherry Picked. C’est delicieux!
Amen.
