Madam Char Char
As a kid you loved a Sunday evening trip to your local milkbar for a BBQ chook or burger with the lot and chips wrapped in butcher paper. Oh and a dollar’s worth of mixed lollies, please.
Sadly, these days old-school milk bars are few and far between and the tired-looking tabouleh and potato salad swimming in mayo just don’t cut it.
But maybe Madam Char Char will…it’s so much more than your average chicken shop and Surry Hills’ latest Crown Street addition.
You’ll love the organic roasted Lilydale chickens with mouth-watering accompaniments such as Smashed Potato Salad with soft egg, crispy bacon and crunchy gherkins and Roast Pumpkin and Cous Cous with feta, walnuts, pomegranate and mint yoghurt dressing.
Or select from a wide range of braised and slow cooked dishes including the 10 hour lamb shoulder with dates, almonds, walnuts and honey, lamb kofta or slow cooked lamb shanks.
Our favourites though? Innovative takes on classic burgers like “The Tradie” your modern day beef burger with all the trimmings and “The Little Piggy” featuring slow cooked pork, both topped off with secret ingredient – Nan’s relish.
Just opened, this place promises to be popular if the success of Damien and Justine Monley’s other venture, the ever packed Flat White in Woollahra, is anything to go by.
Sunday nights will never be the same.
