Mr B’s Facelift (as in better not botox)

Mr B’s Hotel

Mr B's HotelDespite its status as a site rich in history, Mr. B’s plan A was getting slightly stale. So, the hotel picked plan B, a facelift, to inject the venue with va va voom.

Formerly the Mandarin Club, Mr B’s had quite a past, previously housing a butcher, confectioner and the City’s once-upon-a-time best Chinese restaurant; introducing Yum Cha to Sydneysiders. The hotel was also a popular hangout for the Chinese locals. But, following his mid-life crisis, Mr. B got stylishly made-over with three levels, three bars, outdoor seating, dining and gaming.

The updated look is all about a contemporary fusion of East meets West. Each level oozes openness and opulence; whether it’s with marble finishes, light or dark timbers, oriental-patterned glass, iron chandeliers or leather lounges. For a casual vibe, visit the ground level; otherwise it’s the mezzanine if exclusivity is what you’re after. After all, the mysterious Mr. B aims to please all his patrons.

Tao Lounge rocks every night of the week with events and live acts featuring Aussie and international artists. Chill at the tables with some tipples, or bust a move under the bright colour-changing lights.

Iima Thai is the answer to those after a late-night bite. With its rich timber furnishings, ordering will be chocolatey-smooth since both Thai and Japanese dishes are available. An offshoot of Haymarket’s Chat Thai, Iima offers the gamut; from donburi and sushi to som dtum and fried rice. Similar to its sister restaurant is the delectable dessert menu, featuring more pancakes than you can poke a chopstick at.

Sure, nips and tucks are standard in Sin City. But Mr. B’s makeover included a secret something. Obviously plan B stands for better, not botox.
