A Pint Of Beer; A Gallon Of Fun

Sydneysiders appear to have a “crossing the bridge” phobia and that extends to all bridges, the Pyrmont Bridge included.
“But what’s there to do in Pyrmont anyway?” you ask? Apart from a smattering of sushi restaurants, choices to go out in Pyrmont are somewhat limited, but we think Gallon is just a little bit special.
The miniature entrance belies a large den with plenty of wrought-iron fittings, candles, and cosy nooks. As far as pubs go, this one is all class and mood lighting, and it seems like many agree if the atmosphere on a Friday night is anything to go by.
The drinks menu doesn’t venture much further than some New Zealand wines, standard beers, and the obligatory cider, but it’s solid and it works.
The menu isn’t staggering, but what they do here, they do well. The pizzas are only $13.50 and you can choose from a range of six – go the classic margherita, or the prosciutto with sweet balsamic vinegar. They’re super thin and deliciously simple.
Many bar “makeovers” tend to leave their subjects sanitised and dull, which is unfortunate for those of us who love a pub atmosphere. Gallon breaks away from all of that. It has warmth in gallons (!) and a “who-cares-what-you’re-wearing” feel.
This pub is definitely worth seeking out and as for getting there…well, you’ll just have to cross that bridge when you come to it.
